Pearson is going to make changes to the PTE Academic test starting from 7 August 2025. This update is specially designed to help test takers show their English skills based on more real-life situations. This will include new speaking tasks, but the main format and scoring will remain the same. Pearson will also provide new preparation materials to support all.

🗣 What’s New? 

PTE Academic is introducing two new speaking question types from 7th August: 

Respond to a Situation: Helps in testing your ability to respond naturally in everyday situations. 

Summarise Group Discussion: Assess your listening and summarising skills based on a discussion with a group of people. 

These changes are part of Pearson's commitment to ensuring that test content is representative of authentic, real-world communication while maintaining the integrity of the test structure that candidates and institutions are familiar with. 

✅ What is Staying the Same 

Format: The PTE will continue to be 100% computer-based, covering four skills (Writing, Reading, Listening, and Speaking) across three sections. 

Existing Prep Resources: All existing study guides and practice materials will still be valid in addition to the newly added resources. 

Scoring: AI-driven scoring method will continue with enhanced human oversight for longer responses to ensure fairness and consistency. 

Speed: PTE test results will still be provided within 2 days, which makes PTE a very fast turnaround compared to any language test. 

Global Acceptance:

✅ Recognised by all Australian universities for admissions 

✅ Utilized by professional bodies for skills assessment and registration

🛠 Preparing for the New Tasks 

To support test-takers for these new changes: 

Pearson will release new practice materials such as explainer videos and detailed Q&As, that specially explain the updated question types. 

It will offer a special discount on all paid PTE preparation materials, including Scored Practice Tests and a free webinar. 

Pearson will also allow in-person events in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane with expert guidance.
