Australia’s vocational education and training (VET) sector is undergoing a major regulatory sweep as the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) cancels the registration of several training providers for serious breaches of compliance. The move comes amid intensified efforts to uphold the integrity of national qualifications and protect students from exploitative education practices.
Three Major RTOs Face Action
1. Nextgen Tech Institute (Qualify Now Pty Ltd) – RTO 32025
ASQA has cancelled the registration of Nextgen Tech Institute, also known as Australian Learning Academy, effective 15 May 2025. Investigations uncovered serious breaches, including:
- Issuance of qualifications without proper assessment
- Non-compliance with Fit and Proper Person and Financial Viability requirements
ASQA is now issuing Notices of Intent to cancel qualifications awarded between 31 July 2024 and 15 May 2025, including:
- AUR31120 – Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology
- MEM30219 – Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade
- TAE40116 – Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
- HLTAID009 – Provide CPR
- HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
2. SPES Education Pty Ltd – RTO 46018
The registration of SPES Education was cancelled on 17 May 2025 due to:
- Issuing of qualifications without adequate assessment
- Failure to ensure students met academic requirements before certification
ASQA will cancel qualifications issued from 8 January 2024 to 17 May 2025, including:
- CHC30121 – Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care
- CHC43121 – Certificate IV in Disability Support
- ICT50220 – Diploma of Information Technology
- CHC62015 – Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management
- And more across community services and IT
3. Learning Options (Contract Me Pty Ltd) – RTO 88174
Learning Options had its registration cancelled effective 15 May 2025. ASQA found widespread failures in training, assessment, and compliance standards. The regulator is now reviewing qualifications and statements issued from 1 September 2023 to 15 May 2025.
Impacted qualifications include:
- BSB40520 – Certificate IV in Leadership and Management
- TAE40122 – Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
- TAE50216 – Diploma of Training Design and Development
Dozens of statements of attainment are also under review, impacting units in communication, project management, HR, innovation, and safety compliance.
