Great news for skilled workers in the transport sector — Taxi Driver is now officially eligible under the Far North Queensland Designated Area Migration Agreement (FNQ DAMA)!

VETASSESS has confirmed its role as the Skills Assessing Authority for this occupation and has updated its eligibility tool and assessment processes accordingly. Applications for the skills assessment are now being accepted.

✅ Eligibility Criteria for Taxi Driver (FNQ DAMA)

To be eligible, applicants must meet at least one of the following base requirements:

• Have completed an AQF Certificate II, or
• Have at least 1 year of relevant full-time work experience (38 hours per week) as a Taxi Driver

🧰 Additional Work Experience Criteria (Depending on Visa Pathway)

Depending on the visa subclass being applied for (e.g. Skills in Demand (SID), Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (SESR), or Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS)), further work experience may be assessed:

• 1.5 years of part-time (20+ hrs/week) experience with a relevant Certificate II (SID or SESR)
• 1 year of part-time (20+ hrs/week) experience with a relevant Certificate III (SID or SESR)
• 2 years of part-time (35+ hrs/week) or full-time experience (38 hrs/week) if applying for ENS or SESR

⚠️ Note: The work experience must be relevant to the Taxi Driver occupation and recent.

📝 Skills Assessment Process (VETASSESS)

VETASSESS now accepts Taxi Driver assessment applications. This will be a mandatory step for most employer-sponsored visas under the FNQ DAMA pathway.

📌 VETASSESS will assess:

• Qualifications (e.g. Certificate II or III in Transport/Driving)
• Relevant employment history (with employer references)
• Industry compliance (e.g. valid Australian driver’s licence, local taxi licence if applicable)
