For Australian General Skilled Migration (GSM), minor discrepancies in the place of birth across documents are quite common, especially for expatriates from Gulf countries. The key documents for identity are the passport and birth certificate; these must be accurate and consistent, as they are considered the primary proof. A resident ID with a different birthplace is unlikely to cause a major issue if the birth certificate and passport match and are presented with a brief, honest explanation if requested. Always disclose and clarify such issues in a covering letter if it comes up during document checks. In most cases, the authorities rely on the details found in the passport and birth certificate for verification, and the mismatch on the residency ID will not automatically lead to refusal as long as the primary documents are clear and genuine.
